UNICEF has welcomed the formation and launch of a Child Protection Unit in southern Sudan, within the SPLA, as a milestone for the rights of children.
The formation of a Child Protection Unit follows an Action Plan signed by the SPLA committing it to release all children in its ranks by November 2010.

UN Security Council demands end to rape in the DRC



The UN Security Council has demanded that all steps be taken to prevent a repeat of a recent mass rape in north Kivu in the DRC as council members voiced dissatisfaction at the late response of the UN peacekeepers in the region.
